Aldian Taloputra: Bracing for Global Recession and Inflation (Part 2)

15 Agustus 2022, 19:00

In this episode, our host Gundy Cahyadi talks to his fellow economist Aldian Taloputra, from Standard Chartered Bank. The two discuss the state of the Indonesian economy in the midst of the global recession and inflationary fears.

While there are concerns about a potential global recession, Aldian remains more upbeat than most. Especially for Indonesia, the strong domestic demand and high commodity prices are likely to continue supporting the economy. Indeed, corporate Indonesia is also showing signs that activities have rebounded this year

On the rupiah, Aldian also notes that the currency is among the best performing in Asia thus far this year. As inflation continues to spike in Indonesia, Bank Indonesia is expected to raise its policy rate slightly towards the year-end/start of 2023.
