KATADATA - PT Pertamina (Persero) is to have a partnership with US company, Bechtel Corporation, to speed up several downstream projects. This cooperation is done through signing of Master Service Agreement (MSA) between Pertamina and Bechtel.
Bechtel is one of the world’s famous firms that has an expertise in engineering, construction, and project management in several sectors such as energy, chemical, infrastructure, and defense. Bechtel is also included as one of the independent consultant candidates for Masela Block.
In energy sector, especially in oil and gas, Bechtel has handled around 1/3 LNG projects globally, 275 expansion projects and modernization of oil refineries, 380 projects related to chemical and petrochemical that are spread in 160 countries worldwide.
And now, Bechtel will provide service for Indonesia in areas of work such as Bankable Feasibility Study (BFS), Basic Engineering Design (BED), and (Front End Engineering Design (FEED). The result of this study can be used for new refinery development projects, and to increase the capacity of existing refineries.
Pertamina’s president director Dwi Soetjipto said that the cooperation is the real form of Pertamina’s seriousness in building Pertamina Research and Technology Center. “Together we’ll work on engineering to build refineries,” Dwi said to Katadata, Thursday (29/10).
Dwi refused to mention the investment amount in the cooperation. He just said that the value of this cooperation would be adjusted according to the needs. But, by referring to the data that was published by the Cabinet Secretary, the investment reaches US$ 800 million or around IDR 10 trillion.
Pertamina’s VP for corporate communication Wianda Pusponegoro added that previously Pertamina had already conducted an auction for this project. And as the result, Bechtel was chosen with the highest bidding offer compared to other participants.
“Bechtel has been chosen based on the auction with the best offer compared to the others, from the technical side and the funding,” Wianda said.
