Cerita Rakyat Timun Mas dan Raksasa hingga Pesan Moralnya
Cerita rakyat sendiri merupakan sebuah karya sastra yang menceritakan tentang nilai kehidupan. Biasanya, setiap daerah memiliki sebuah cerita rakyat yang berbeda dengan daerah lain.
Pada masa lalu, cerita rakyat berkembang melalui budaya tutur. Cerita rakyat Timun Mas merupakan salah satu legenda yang populer di Jawa Tengah (Jateng).
Mengutip buku Dongeng Nusantara (2020) oleh Bambang Joko Susilo dan Dedi Fadilah, cerita rakyat Timun Mas bercerita tentang Mbok Sirni yang mendapatkan biji timun ajaib dari Buto Ijo. Biji tersebut menjadi seorang anak, yaitu Timun Mas. Berikut ceritanya.

Pada masa lalu tersebutlah seorang janda yang hidup sebatang kara. Wanita yang akrab dipanggil Mbok Randa itu sudah lama menginginkan anak untuk menemani hidupnya.
Suatu hari, muncullah seorang raksasa. Dia mengetahui keinginan Mbok Randa dan berjanji untuk mewujudkannya.
Raksasa itu memberikan biji mentimun kepada Mbok Randa. Raksasa itu menyuruh Mbok Randa menanam biji mentimun itu.
Kelak, dia akan menemukan sesosok bayi di dalamnya.
"Tapi dengan syarat, saat dia berumur enam tahun kau harus menyerahkannya kepadaku untuk kusantap," kata raksasa itu.
Besarnya keinginan untuk memiliki anak membuat Mbok Randa menyanggupi syarat tersebut. Perintah raksasa itu dilaksanakan dengan patuh.
Ditanamnya biji mentimun itu dan dirawatnya dengan baik. Di antara beberapa buah yang tumbuh, Mbok Randa menemukan salah satu mentimun yang berukuran sangat besar berwarna kuning keemasan.
Saat dipetik dan dibelah, terdapat sesosok bayi mungil di dalamnya. Mbok Randa lantas merawat bayi yang diberi nama Timun Mas itu dengan penuh kasih sayang.
Bayi itu tumbuh menjadi anak yang cantik. Enam tahun sudah berlalu. Timun Mas sudah tumbuh menjadi anak yang cantik.
Mbok Randa sangat menyayanginya. Namun, kebahagiaannya terusik dengan kedatangan raksasa yang menagih janjinya. Mbok Randa keberatan jika Timun Mas diambil oleh raksasa itu untuk dimakan. Dia pun memutar otak.
Dia lantas meminta raksasa untuk bersabar hingga dua tahun lagi. Mbok Randa beralasan tubuh Timun Mas masih terlalu kecil sehingga tidak enak untuk dimakan. Ternyata, raksasa itu menyetujuinya.
Setelah itu, Mbok Randa akhirnya pergi menemui seorang petapa. Dia menceritakan permasalahan yang dihadapinya dan meminta bantuan petapa itu.
Sang Petapa memberi beberapa bungkusan berisi biji mentimun, jarum, garam dan terasi kepada Mbok Randa. Benda-benda itu nantinya bisa untuk menangkal kejahatan raksasa tersebut.
Dua tahun kemudian, raksasa itu kembali datang menagih janji. Mbok Randa langsung menyuruh Timun Mas lari sambil membawa bungkusan pemberian dari petapa sakti.
Raksasa itu pun mengejarnya. Timun Mas yang sudah kelelahan lantas mengeluarkan bungkusan berisi biji mentimun.
Ajaib, pohon mentimun dengan ukuran-ukuran raksasa tiba tiba tumbuh dan melilit tubuh raksasa itu. Kesempatan itu dimanfaatkan oleh Timun Mas untuk lari. Namun, beberapa saat kemudian raksasa itu mampu membebaskan diri dan mengejar Timun Mas.
Jarak keduanya semakin dekat. Timun Mas mengambil bungkusan berisi jarum dan menyebarkannya. Tiba-tiba tanaman bambu tumbuh dengan lebatnya.
Tanaman bambu itu menghambat langkah raksasa itu. Kakinya berdarah tertusuk bambu. Namun, raksasa itu enggan menyerah. Meski terluka, dia masih terus mengejar gadis cilik itu.
Timun Mas mengambil bungkusan ketiga. Disebarnya garam pemberian petapa sakti itu. Tiba-tiba, tanah di belakangnya menjadi lautan.
Namun, raksasa itu ternyata masih bisa menyeberangi lautan tersebut. Dia kembali mengejar Timun Mas yang tinggal memiliki satu senjata.
Akhirnya, Timun Mas mengeluarkan bungkusan terakhirnya. Disebarnya terasi dalam bungkusan itu yang kemudian menjadi lautan lumpur.
Ternyata, raksasa itu tidak mampu melintasinya dan tenggelam di dalamnya. Timun Mas kemudian kembali pulang dan hidup bahagia dengan Mbok Randa.

In ancient times, in a village in Central Java, there lived a middle-aged widow named Mbok Randa. She lived alone since he was killed by hes husband a few years ago, because she did not have a child.
Mbok Randa really hopes for a child to attend to her loneliness. However, the hope was vanished, because the husband had died in the world.
She can only wait for a miracle to come to get a child. For the sake of reaching these hopes day and night, she always prayed to the almighty God to give a child.
One night, that hope came through her dream. in her dream Mbok Randa was visited by a giant creature who told her to go into the forest where she used to look for firewood to take a package under a very large tree. When waking up in the morning Mbok Randa hardly believes in her dream last night.
"Could this miracle really happen to me? Asked himself in doubt,"
But the middle-aged woman tried to ward off doubts that were in her heart. With enthusiasm and hope, he immediately went to forest and headed for a place that the giant had shown in her dream. Arriving in the forest she immediately looked for the package which was under a large tree.
How shocked she was when she found the package she thought was a baby but it turned out that it was only a cucumber seed. His heart again wondered.
“What does the giant mean to give me a cucumber seed," she muttered to himself.
In the middle of hes confusion without realizing it suddenly a giant creature stood behind him laughing out loud. Mbok Srini was very surprised.
“Forgiveness, giant lord, do not eat me! I still want to live!," Ask Mbok Randa.
“Don’t be afraid of old women! I will not give you a favor, don’t you want a child? “Ask the giant.
“Right, mister giant” Mbok Randa answered nervously.
“Then immediately plant the cucumber seeds! someday you will get a daughter, but remember you have to give that child to me when she grows up, because I will make it my meal,"said the giant.
Because her desire was so great to have children, Mbok Randa subconsciously replied “Okay, the giant I’m willing”.
After Mbok Randa stated his ability, the giant disappeared and she immediately rushed home to plant the cucumber seeds in his fields. With hope she always cared for her with great affection every day.
Two months later the plant began to bear fruit, but strangely only one fruit and the more days the cucumber fruit is greater than the cucumber in general the income is very different. after the cucumber cook Mbok Randa was picking it and painstakingly took it home because of the weight.
How shocked she was after splitting the cucumber she got a very beautiful baby girl. When he will carry her the baby suddenly cries.
Then Mbok Srini gave the little baby the name “Timun Mas”, since that moment the excitement always radiated on his face, cucumber mas became his favorite child. The day went on and on, the moon changed, and the years changed, Timun Mas grew up to become a beautiful girl.
One time Timun Mas and his mother prepared to go to the forest in search of firewood, suddenly there was a strange sound and shook the earth, apparently vtesebut sound was from a giant who wanted to collect promises. Timun Mas and his mother immediately moved home, but quickly the giant arrived in front of his house.
“I came to collect the promise,” said the giant.
“Please give me a little time, he is still very small and not tasty to eat” Mbok Randa answered.

Finally the giant agreed and went back into the forest. Timun mas is getting more mature and more beautiful, but the pickup time is getting closer.
Mbok Randa also felt very anxious and afraid because she did not want to part with her child, she was looking for ways to save her daughter. Mbok Randa goes to the Valley of the Hill where the ascetics are, when she arrives there the hermit gives 4 small packs that have different contents, including cucumber seeds, needles, salt and the last package contains shrimp paste, before returning the ascetic does not forget to tell about the benefits of 4 the package.
Arriving at home Mbok Randa immediately explained how to use the bundle to cucumber mas, finally the giant came to his house, he asked Mbok Randa to come out and hand Timun Mas. Before leaving, he told Timun Mas to run as far as possible and after feeling safe, he went out to meet the giant.
“Timun Mas ran away to hear you arrived here,” she said.

“No, he left earlier,” she explained.
“Quickly tell me where he went” bully the giant.
“I don’t know, forgive me” Answer Mbok Randa.
Hearing that giant was angry but because he had a tall body and legs he saw Timun Mas, and immediately ran after him, but Timun Mas immediately sprinkled cucumber seeds, miraculously the seeds grew into very thick cucumber lading, hungry giants ate all the cucumbers and chasing back.
Before being able to approach Timun Mas immediately threw the needles made of bamboo, as soon as the needle turned into a very thick bamboo forest, the monster was in pain because a lot of bamboo stabbed and injured his leg.
After successfully getting out of the bamboo forest Timun Mas rushed to scatter the third package namely salt, and the sea of salt turned into a vast sea of lakes, but because the giant could swim he managed to pull over.
Timun Mas, who was frightened, sprinkled the last package, which was the miraculous shrimp paste that turned into boiling mud, the mud managed to drown the giant, then he disappeared and finally Timun Mas could live calmly and happily forever.

Pesan moral yang terkandung dalam cerita rakyat Timun Mas, harus waspada dan berani kepada orang yang memiliki niat jahat ke kita. Selalu yakin jika setiap masalah ada jalan keluarnya dan tetap berdoa serta pasrah kepada Tuhan.
